Hyperkeratotic Keratosis

Hyperkeratotic keratosis is a rather common skin condition. It is due to the continual production and accumulation of skin cells on the sin surface. The skin should normally digest the accumulated cells. But the skin condition prevents this possibility. It is also caused when keratin accumulates on the skin. Keratin is the protein responsible for the tough nature of the skin. Its abnormal production and accumulation causes Hyperkeratotic keratosis. Types of hyperkeratotic keratosis

The skin condition is of different types. One very common one is the one referred to as follicular hyperkeratosis. In this particular one, there is excessive development of keratin in the hair follicle. This ends up in the formation of some papules on the skin. The papules are usually elevated with a cone like shape. They are also usually rough in appearance.  It has some encrusted sebum at the opening.

It is also possible for the skin condition to come up on the feet. This type is called planter hyperkeratotic keratosis. The skin condition has also been known to come up on the nipples. In most cases, hyperkeratotic keratosis does not have any negative impact on the skin. You can leave it on the skin if you do not mind.

Treatment methods

Hyperkeratotic keratosis can be treated using creams containing urea.  The urea will work on the accumulated keratin and get it dissolved. It will soften the keratosis and the skin will be able to get rid of it. Aside this method, there are also some other methods that can be used for treating the skin condition. You can make use of some other specially formulated creams to get it treated.

It is also possible to treat hyperkeratotic keratosis using some vitamin supplements. It is also possible to treat it using fat products that are rich in essential fatty acids. The main vitamins that are very helpful in removing the skin condition are vitamins B and E. vitamin A too plays a very important role in this regard.

Surgery can also be very helpful in removing the skin condition.  This method of removal may however be considerably expensive.
